Maybe you are having a new home built or maybe it is a renovation. As the project comes to a close, you are probably excited for the end result, but you still have some important points to consider. Among these points, you will need to think about the post-construction cleaning.

Construction can be a messy business, and depending on the terms that you have with the contractor that is doing the work, some of the clean up might be left to you. Before you get comfortable in your new home or newly renovated space, you are going to want to take the time to make sure to perform a thorough cleaning.

The Dirt & Dust

Dirt and dust come with having construction done. It is just a part of the business, and it is something that you have to accept if you are going to have a home built or renovation work done on the home. The problem is that this dust can get everywhere and it can settle in to all sorts of spaces.

Since you and your family are going to be living in this space, you want to get all of this dust and dirt cleaned up before you start moving in your furniture and other possessions. If you leave all of this dirt and dust behind when you move in, it could get on your furniture and potentially ruin it, and some of it can cause problems for people that have respiratory issues.

To get it clean, you are going to need to go through the entire space and wipe down all of the surfaces; you are going to want to open all of the drawers and cabinets to clean the interiors and you are going to want to clean the floors and the windows.

Removal of Materials

All sorts of different materials can go into the building or renovating of a home, and a variety of different types of debris and material might be left behind when the job is done. Just to name a few, you have things like drywall, paint, carpet, tiles, wood, pipes and the list goes on and on.

Much of this might be taken away by the contractor when they are done the job, but some of it could get left behind. With much of this leftover material, it is stuff that you will never use, and it is just going to take up space in your home. Part of your post-construction cleaning is going to include finding ways to get rid of all of this leftover material and debris.

For some of this stuff, you might just be able to put it out at the curb for the weekly trash collection, but there are construction materials that you may not be allowed to put in with the trash from your home. In these cases, you may need to find a local facility that is willing to accept your leftover construction debris. Before you put any construction material in the trash, it is important to make sure that you are allowed to leave it out for municipal garbage collection.

Clean Windows

As was mentioned before, construction can be a dirty business and the work will usually leave behind all sorts of dust and dirt. With any construction job, much of this dirt and dust will settle on the windows. By the time the work is done, the windows will have a layer of grime on them that is not only unsightly, but it will also cloud the glass and make it so less light gets through.

After the work is completed, you are going to want to clean the interiors and the exteriors of the windows. As an important point, you want to be careful when you clean windows after construction. If you are not careful, that thick layer of dirt and dust could scratch the glass.

Construction work can also be a little hazardous to windows. If you want to prevent some of this damage and limit the cleaning that will need to be done, you might want to put some type of protective cover over the windows. Beyond the dirt and the dust that could build up, there is the potential for the glass to get scratched, the frames could get damaged and there is the possibility of things like paint getting on the windows. You can prevent most of these issues by covering the windows with plastic.

Making Sure the Home is Clean and Safe

Most people think of the post construction cleaning as a good final step to ensure that everything looks good when the job is done, but there is more to it than that. By getting the home clean and removing all the dirt, debris and dust, you are ensuring that the area is safe and healthy for the people that will occupy the space.

Some of the leftover material can be hazardous, and you don’t want your family breathing in all of the dust that is left behind from the work that was done. By getting the home cleaned or doing it yourself, you are doing something that will protect the health of the people in the home, and you are protecting your possessions.

Consider Hiring Professionals

Cleaning up after a construction project is very different from the type of regular cleaning that you might do around your home. To ensure that the job is done right, and that nothing is missed, you may want to hire a company that offers post-construction cleaning services.

As a further point, you may want to hire professional service for cleaning your windows. Professional window cleaners will be able to reach all of the hard to get to windows, and they will provide better results than doing it yourself. Additionally, they will know how to clean the windows in a way that will protect them from damage, and if there is anything like paint on the windows, they will be able to remove it without scratching the glass.
